Sophomore Showcase

Mid-East Career and Technology Centers hosts an annual showcase event, formerly titled Sophomore Experience Event (SEE Mid-East), for area 10th graders. Participating partner schools include: Buckeye Trail, Caldwell, Cambridge, Crooksville, Foxfire, Franklin Community, John Glenn, Maysville, Meadowbrook, Philo, Rosecrans, Shenandoah, Sheridan, Tri-Valley, West Muskingum, Zanesville, and Zanesville Community.

Our Admissions Coordinators visit each school prior to the event and provides information about the programs offered at Mid-East, which aids students in deciding which programs they wish to visit throughout the day. Students observe three programs on the Buffalo Campus, and four programs on the Zanesville Campus. Lab visitations allow students the opportunity to visualize the hands-on learning provided at Mid-East. They also benefit from interacting with career center students and instructors.

2024 Showcase Dates

Buffalo Campus: November 6, 7, 8
Zanesville Campus: November 13, 14, 15

2024 Career Nights

After area 10th graders attend our Sophomore Showcase event, they sometimes need a second visit to decide which program best fits their passion. Our Career Nights give students the opportunity to bring their families to our campuses and talk with them about their career interests and program choices.

Our Career Nights are held in the evenings, so families can tour our facilities and meet our expert instructors who are committed to making high school a real-world experience their students will enjoy.

Students also have the special opportunity to submit their Mid-East application at Career Night, making them the first students to sign-up for our programs!

2024 Career Night Dates

Buffalo Campus: November 14
Zanesville Campus: November 18

8th Grade Tours and Middle School Activities

Our Admissions Coordinators work with partner schools to coordinate and provide middle school activities. Each year, area eighth graders tour Mid-East CTC to learn more about the programs and opportunities offered at Mid-East. Mid-East students serve as tour guides for the tour and enjoy sharing their experiences with the eighth grade students.

Classroom presentations are provided to 6th, 7th, and/or 8th graders throughout the school year. Students complete a career assessment to learn more about their interests and how to link those interests/strengths to career options. OhioMeansJobs K-12 is utilized to research career information relative to job responsibilities, required skills, required coursework, educational requirements, job outlook, and salary. OhioMeansJobs K-12 serves as a resource in many additional areas, such as academic assistance, scholarship searches, and budgeting.

A core message embedded throughout middle school activities reflects the importance of students exploring careers in diverse ways, being aware of opportunities, and preparing for their futures by developing early habits that lead to success.
