West Muskingum Elementary Fourth Grade Explores Careers at Mid-East
West Muskingum Elementary Fourth Grade Explores Careers at Mid-EastFourth graders from West Muskingum Elementary recently toured the Natural Resource Conservation (NRC), Electrical Trades, Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC), and Power Line Labs on the Zanesville Campus of Mid-East.

Leading up to the visit, Career Development Specialist Robin McQuaid coordinated various career development activities with the elementary students throughout the school year including a wild animal track painting activity.

The tour allowed the fourth graders the opportunity to explore programs available to high school juniors and seniors at Mid-East. The students enjoyed a special hands-on activity with the Natural Resource Conservation (NRC) students. They observed the NRC students seining the pond on the program's land lab, in which they used nets to capture and count the fish, tadpoles and frogs in the pond. They also sifted soil and planted seeds. In the Power Line Lab, students were able to watch pole-climbing demonstrations and learn about safety procedures. In Electrical Trades, they learned about safety and how electrical switches function. In HVAC they explored heating and cooling systems.
